Radiography is the medical
profession that produces images of internal body
structures using ionizing radiation
(x-rays). Related imaging modalities
include computed tomography, angiography, and
mammography. Other imaging modalities
include magnetic resonance imaging, radiation
therapy, sonography and nuclear medicine.
A Radiographer is a professional qualified
through education to assist physicians in
providing patient care through the diagnostic use
of imaging modalities. The field of
Radiologic Technology offers you the opportunity
to become a member of an allied health
professional team dedicated to preserving health
and diagnosing disease.
Your Duties as a Radiographer would
include:
- Operating
x-ray equipment and processing exposed
images.
- Positioning
patients for diagnostic examinations.
- Calculating
proper exposure factors to achieve
optimum radiographic image quality with
minimum exposure to the patient.
- Assessing
the diagnostic quality of the radiograph.
- Assisting
the radiologist during specific
procedures, assisting patients while in
your care, and performing as a valued
professional.
Qualified Radiographers perform
radiographic procedures at a level that requires
independent judgment and critical thinking
skills. They are employed in hospitals,
clinics, private practice, industry and the armed
services. This profession offers the
individual an opportunity for a rewarding career
and chance for advancement.
